What's in a Name?

"The one thing I want to leave my children is an honorable name." -Theodore Roosevelt

My mother knew exactly what she was doing when she decided on Jerrica. It's a name that suits me perfectly. I'm so grateful she stayed away from Gracie or Justina. Thanks mom!! Jerrica has an undefined meaning. You also can't find monogrammed pencils, bags, or necklaces with Jerrica on it, so in elementary school my pencils were always stolen while the Brittanys and Josephs laughed at me. In most searches, Jerrica is associated with the adjectives: benevolent, strong, gifted, and prudent- which I like to say totally relates to me. I think they forgot perfectionist on the list.

One of the biggest questions I hear, "Is your dad's name Jerry?" Many people are surprised when I say, no it's actually an 80's cartoon character's name.  Jerrica from the show Jem is an amazing character. Her day job is the owner of a music company, and she has an alter ego Jem- a singer in the band the Holograms. I think I admire her Jem side more because who doesn't want pink, glittery eyeshadow and pink hair?!

By the way, interested in Jem? You can catch a stellar 65 episodes on Netflix. Or... watch this clip to get an idea of why I love it. Jem Intro :)

Now... you're asking, what's up with the blog name? I have seriously stressed about coming up with a name that truly grabs what this blog is all about. I could have started this blog two weeks ago had I thought of an acceptable choice. (Perfectionist creeping out) My husband finally looked at me and said, "Just make it things you like. Just be YOU." And here we are... Love, Lace, and Lemonade.

I truly love being in love. I love the idea of love.
Any girl feels fantastic in lace. Lacy shirts, lacy dress, lacy shoes, lacy bracelets...
Lemonade speaks for itself. This girl loveees some lemonade.

Teddy said it best about having/leaving an honorable name. One of the things you and you alone have in this world is... your name. It's how the world recognizes you. I am a firm believer in giving a child a solid, strong name. Apparently celebrities don't share this opinion with the recent arrivals of fruits, colors, and directions for names. On the other hand, the name you create during your life follows your family for years to come. So think...

What's your name mean? What does your name represent? Is it an "honorable" name?

Lots of love until next time!
